The Hermit is gearing up for the release of its long-awaited third album, Turn Up (The Stereo), out March 17 on So Called Recordings. The Hermit will be playing a combined CD release show and art happening featuring several local artists at The Chapel in Vancouver on March 14th…more details at www.myspace.com/hermitmusic. The third annual volume of the "manoeuvres" electronic music compilation is slowly but surely taking shape. Look for an April/May street date. Congrats to Ookpikk who has been picking up airplay across Canada and the US with Total Home-Job, along with an "RPM Essentials" pick in CMJ Magazine. Look out for Ookpikk-related live news soon...

Congratulations to all of the artists who featured on "manoeuvres 2 - a collection of vancouver electronica" which was released digitally by So Called Recordings in April. The album climbed to the top of !earshot's Electronic Album Chart in late May, making it the #1 most played electronic album at College Radio across Canada. A big thanks to all of the stations and DJs that supported it. For those of you looking to track down a copy, manoeuvres is available digitally at eMusic and iTunes or on CD by clicking the Buy Now link to the right or by visiting Zulu Records, High Life or Red Cat in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia.

The web boffin has been busy lately here at So Called Towers. The Artists page has been revamped to include new music players for each Artist, streaming multiple tracks. And as there's no limit to the number of tracks that these little babies can play, we'll be adding new songs and remixes on a regular basis - so keep checking back. Here on the home page we've added a player streaming a selection of tracks from the current So Called Playlist so you can hear what's on heavy rotation. And while you're listening, why not sign up for our mailing list so we can keep you bang up to date with all of the So Called goings on...

So Called is delighted to announce the newest addition to its client roster, record producer Britt Myers. Britt has worked with an impressive selection of new and established talent - including Robbers on High Street, Mates of State and Suzanne Vega - and is based out of Great City Productions, his New York studio. In other news, the Turn Up (The Stereo) EP by The Hermit debuted in the Top 10 new albums on eMusic, the world's #2 digital music store, and the Sinewave remix of "Si Vous Me Quittez" was picked up by CBC Radio 3 in Canada as a recent Track of The Day. Elsewhere, international men of mystery The Midival Punditz have been on the road again, this time being flown in to London to play an exclusive private party, and are now back in India completing work on their as-yet-untitled third album.
Check out the Artists page for links to all of the above.

Check out the new video for "It Was A Better Time" by The Hermit:

Hard to believe it's Q4 already - time to put away the flip-flops for another year and get back to some real work (yeah!). So what's new? The HERMIT has just released a new EP which is available exclusively via eMusic and includes three tracks from the as yet unreleased album, Turn Up (The Stereo), plus three tasty remixes by Sinewave, Trek-e and 2Placid. Check it out here. The HERMIT is hitting the road in early October and you can find tour dates on their MySpace. Midival Punditz studio maestro Gaurav Raina produced the new album by Anoushka Shankar and Karsh Kale entitled "Breathing Under Water" which is out now on Manhattan/Blue Note. Old friends Wheatus are in the middle of a 20 date UK tour booked by So Called. And over at So Called Recordings, plans are underway for "manoeuvres 2" after the success of Vol.1. That's all for now... see you at CMJ!

Judging by the heat and the number of people on vacation, summer has truly arrived. Nevertheless, there are new deals in the pipeline for both Management and Recordings, which should be done and dusted by the next time I write. Until then, crack open a cold one and check out the new tunes in the Playlist….

Lots going on as Summer approaches - manoeuvres 1 debuted in the Top 10 of iTunes Canada's Electronic Chart and is still getting stellar support from College Radio across Canada. The HERMIT's album launch party was a huge success, followed the very next day by a video shoot for "Better Time" directed by the gallant and dashing SMS and his band of merry men. There are also tasty HERMIT remixes in the pipeline by the likes of Gel-Sol, Don Verbrilli and others. As for me, I'll be joining the Midival Punditz for their Glastonbury Festival performance where they will be raining down Indian vibes on an unsuspecting British public. They're playing a live set during the day followed by a DJ set at night - so check them out if you're in the area. Then it's the London Calling conference for a spot of hand shaking and, hopefully, deal making. More soon - over and out...

#1 on eMusic

manoeuvres 1
"manoeuvres 1 - a collection of vancouver electronica" is the first album from sister label So Called Recordings. eMusic put out the album as an advance release in early March where it debuted at #1 on the Electronic Chart. Congrats to all of the Vancouver artists whose great music made this possible. Check it out here: manoeuvres 1 on eMusic. The album will be available via iTunes and other digital services from April 10th. So Called Recordings now has a MySpace at www.myspace.com/recordingsocalled so check us out and be our friend.

The HERMIT
The HERMIT's third album "Turn Up (The Stereo)" is mixed, mastered and generally magnificent. Release plans are well underway, but you can grab an early taste of it on our MySpace or at The HERMIT's MySpace with the track Si Vous Me Quittez - which, coincidentally, is also the first track on manoeuvres 1 (see what we did there... clever, eh?).
